Disneyland Resort is entering a bold new chapter. In a major announcement this week, Disney Parks shared plans for three major developments: a new parking hub, a ride inspired by Avatar, and the first U.S. attraction based on Coco. These updates mark some of the most exciting Disneyland updates and changes in years.
Easier Entry: New Parking and Transportation Hub

One of the biggest changes involves how visitors enter the park. Disney will build a 6,000-space parking structure on the resort’s east side, along with a new transportation hub. The project includes drop-off zones, security screening, and a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard.
“This will make getting into the parks faster and more convenient for thousands of guests each day,” said Disney officials. The hub is already under construction, and it’s one of the highlights of Disneyland’s latest news shared this summer.

Two new rides are also in the works. The first is a land based on James Cameron’s Avatar, which is coming to Disney California Adventure’s Hollywood Backlot. It will feature a boat-style ride similar to those in Shanghai Disneyland.
To make room, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close in early 2026. This Disneyland ride closure will pave the way for one of the most anticipated Disneyland attractions in 2026.
The second addition is a Coco-themed dark ride near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. Inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, the ride will bring the beloved Pixar film to life with music and vibrant scenes. Construction begins this fall, but no current rides will be closed.
Project | Location | Timeline |
---|---|---|
New parking hub | East of resort, across Harbor Blvd | Underway |
Avatar boat ride | Disney California Adventure | Opens after Monsters, Inc. closes in early 2026 |
Coco dark ride | Near Pixar Pier | Construction starts Fall 2025 |
What It Means for Disneyland Visitors
These updates are part of the larger DisneylandForward plan, approved by Anaheim in 2024. The goal is to use existing land more efficiently while improving the guest experience. With easier park entry and new, immersive attractions, Disney is building a better future for both first-time visitors and loyal fans.
If you’re planning a visit in late 2025 or 2026, keep your eyes peeled for upcoming changes and closures. These projects may affect your trip, but they also promise a more magical Disneyland experience.
