Following the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, major European airlines such as Lufthansa and Wizz Air are set to resume flights to Tel Aviv. This marks a significant moment in European airlines’ travel to Israel, as services were previously halted due to regional conflicts. Flights to Israel are set to resume on February 1, 2025.
Israel Travel Updates: Scheduled Resumptions and Continued Suspensions
Lufthansa Group, which includes Swiss, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, and Austrian Airlines, announced that flights to Israel resume from February 1. However, flights to Tehran remain on hold until February 14, and services to Beirut are suspended until at least February 28.
As of last Thursday, January 16, Wizz Air has already restarted its operations from London to Tel Aviv and Amman, Jordan. Ryanair is also optimistic, with plans to operate a full schedule to Tel Aviv by summer, highlighting the European flights resuming.
Meanwhile, Air France-KLM has extended its suspension of Tel Aviv flights until January 24, with airline service updates pending.
Uncertainty Surrounding the Ceasefire
The ceasefire deal has injected cautious optimism into the aviation industry, allowing airlines to safely resume operations in the region.
However, the durability of the ceasefire remains uncertain as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has postponed the cabinet vote on the agreement due to last-minute disagreements with Hamas.
Hard-line members within Netanyahu’s cabinet are reportedly opposed to the deal, now scheduled for a vote on Friday.
U.S. Carriers Continue Suspensions Amid Security Concerns
In the U.S., major airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, have maintained flight suspensions. American Airlines does not anticipate resuming flights to Israel until at least September, while Delta has halted Tel Aviv flights until March 31.
United has paused its services to Tel Aviv indefinitely, stating it is closely monitoring the security situation and awaiting further intelligence reports before resuming flights.
As airlines navigate these complex geopolitical landscapes, the safety and security of passengers and crew remain their top priority, influencing the gradual resumption of airline service to Israel.
