QantasLink will launch its first-ever direct flights between Newcastle and Perth this September. The service will improve Australia’s regional connectivity and offer more choice for travelers.
Flight Schedule and Service Details
Starting 8 September 2025, the airline will operate three weekly flights—on Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays—using a 150-seat Airbus A319. This new route adds 900 seats a week and more than 45,000 seats annually. It is one of Australia’s most significant regional flights in recent years.
The benefits are clear for people in the Hunter region. Until now, passengers needed to connect through Sydney to reach Western Australia. The new Newcastle to Perth flights will save time and reduce travel stress. Flight time is about five hours non-stop.

Economic Impact and Tourism Boost
“We’ve worked hard to secure this route because it’s one our community and extended region needs,” said Newcastle Airport CEO Linc Horton. He explained that the route will open business and leisure travel doors. It also creates easier access to Western Australia’s growing resources sector and new tourism opportunities.
The economic benefits are also substantial. Forecasts suggest the service will support more than 70 new jobs and bring around AUD 21.7 million annually into the local economy. This represents a major tourism boost that Australia flights are expected to deliver.
Tickets went on sale in late May. Launch fares start at AUD 299 one-way in economy. QantasLink will be the only airline offering non-stop Newcastle-Perth air travel.
Improving Australia’s Regional Connectivity
The route also helps Newcastle Airport strengthen its role as a key hub for New South Wales. The airport is growing as demand rises from both business travelers and holidaymakers.
Direct access to Perth expands those options even further. Passengers can now also connect through Perth to international destinations such as London, Paris, and Johannesburg.
QantasLink chief operating officer Petrea Bradford said the flights highlight the airline’s focus on regional Australia. “We’re supporting regional communities with better connectivity,” she explained. The service is designed for both fly-in, fly-out workers and families who want easier cross-country travel.
