Canada, the UK, the U.S., and Australia have issued urgent Saudi Arabia travel advisory updates for 2025. The warnings target specific regions, including Najran, Abha, Qatif, and border areas with Yemen and Iraq. These Saudi Arabia travel restrictions come as tourism reaches record highs.

Canada Issues Strictest Warnings

The Canada travel warning for Saudi Arabia is the most comprehensive. Canadian authorities ban all travel within 80 kilometers of the Yemen border. This includes the southern city of Najran, which faces frequent rocket and missile attacks.

Canada also warns against travel near the Iraq border. The towns of Hafr al Batin and Khafji are specifically mentioned. Abha International Airport faces “persistent threats of missile and drone attacks.”

Over 1.12 million Canadian tourists visited Saudi Arabia in November 2024 alone. This dramatic increase makes the warnings more urgent.

UK Responds to Regional Changes

The UK-Saudi Arabia travel update reflects the June 24, 2025, ceasefire between Israel and Iran. However, British officials warn that “regional instability remains unpredictable.”

The UK bans travel within 10 kilometers of the Saudi-Yemen border and restricts non-essential travel in areas 10 to 80 kilometers from the border.

British travelers must “closely follow local authority instructions” and prepare for transport disruptions.

U.S. Warns About Digital Activity

The U.S. travel advisory for Saudi Arabia includes alarming warnings about digital activity. Americans are warned that posting, sharing, or “liking” content critical of Saudi policies can lead to arrest.

This applies even to posts made outside Saudi Arabia. Under Saudi cybercrime laws, people have received prison sentences up to 45 years.

The U.S. also bans travel within 20 miles of the Yemen border. They specifically warn against visiting Qatif due to ongoing unrest.

Australia Emphasizes Growing Tourism Concerns

The Australia-Saudi Arabia safety alert takes a broader approach. Australian authorities warn of “airspace closures, missile strikes, and sudden military escalations.”

Australia’s advisory was last updated on June 30, 2025. They emphasize that conditions “can change without notice.”

Australian tourism to Saudi Arabia is growing. Arrivals increased from 1,330 in December 2024 to 1,560 in February 2025.

Impact on Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Industry

These advisories mark the most serious international warnings for Saudi Arabia in recent years. Security concerns are escalating despite growing tourism numbers.

The coordinated warnings represent serious challenges for Saudi Arabia’s tourism goals as the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan relies heavily on international visitors.

However, current security conditions require careful planning. Travelers must accept significant risks that can appear with little warning.
