Somalia has launched a new e-Visa and travel authorization system, set to go live on September 1, 2025. This change aims to modernize entry procedures, enhance security, and drive Somalia’s tourism growth.
The new rules exempt diplomats, residents with permits, UNLP passport holders, and travelers from visa-free or bilateral agreement countries.
How to Apply for the Somalia e-Visa?
All foreign visitors must now apply through Somalia’s online portal at www.evisa.gov.so, replacing paper-based processing.
Officials say the Somalia e-Visa application will speed up approvals, improve screening, and align with international travel standards. Exemptions apply to diplomats, residents with permits, UNLP passport holders, and travelers from visa-free or bilateral agreement countries.

Government Push for Security and Growth
Immigration Director-General Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuxulow called the e-Visa “a historic step forward” in Somalia’s digital transformation. Meanwhile, Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag emphasized that all visa fees will now flow directly into government accounts, ensuring transparency.
The system includes enhanced security checks and trained personnel to safeguard national interests while facilitating easier movement.
“This is not only about technology—it is about building confidence,” Dhuxulow noted. “We want Somalia to be seen as a welcoming, secure, and economically vibrant destination.”
Positioning Somalia for the Future
The rollout supports Somalia’s integration with the East African Community and is expected to boost trade, investment, and travel to Somalia in 2025.
While the country continues to face security challenges, officials say the reforms reflect a commitment to openness, modernization, and stability. Ongoing Somalia travel updates highlight broader digital reforms that aim to make the nation more welcoming and economically competitive.
