Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has introduced new Thailand airline regulations to hold airlines accountable for delays and cancellations on international flights. The goal is to enhance passenger rights and ensure timely compensation and adequate support during flight delays in Thailand.

Key Provisions for Passenger Compensation

The regulations clearly define the support airlines must provide for passengers:

  • Delays Over 2 Hours: Airlines must offer complimentary meals, beverages, and access to communication facilities.
  • Delays Exceeding 5 Hours: Passengers are entitled to at least 1,500 baht (around $46) in compensation within 14 days, which can be provided as cash, travel vouchers, or frequent flyer miles.
  • Overnight Delays and Cancellations: For overnight delays, airlines must offer accommodation, transportation, and the option to cancel the trip for a full refund. The same benefits apply for Thailand’s canceled flights policy or delays exceeding 10 hours, with compensation ranging from 2,000 to 4,500 baht, based on flight distance.

Applicability and Exemptions

These regulations cover international flights to and from Thailand and disruptions caused by the airline’s fault. Exemptions include situations where:

  • Passengers are notified of delays or cancellations at least seven days in advance.
  • An alternative flight is offered within three hours of the original departure time.
  • Delays or cancellations are due to unavoidable circumstances, such as extreme weather.

Thailand’s Commitment to Improving Air Travel

The latest updates from the Thailand aviation authority reflect the country’s commitment to improving air travel standards and protecting consumer rights. By enforcing clear compensation guidelines, the CAA ensures that passengers are adequately supported during flight delays, helping to align Thailand with global trends in strengthening passenger protections and enforcing airline penalties.
