Swiss tourists’ fascination with the U.S. continues, regardless of political shifts or who occupies the White House.

With the Trump Harris election impact capturing global attention, travel experts in Switzerland emphasize that politics can momentarily influence travel sentiment. However, they also believe it rarely affects the enduring appeal of the U.S. as a destination.

Despite past political upheavals and election seasons, Swiss wanderlust for America remains steady and resilient.

Political Influence on Travel Bookings Remains Low

Trump or Harris

According to a recent Travelnews survey among Swiss travel experts, political events such as the Trump Harris election impact are unlikely to significantly alter Swiss travel to the USA.

Michael Bötschi, co-owner of Go2Travel, explains that while some travelers may pause or show caution before election results, most still book trips once practical considerations like currency exchange rates and travel costs align with their budgets. “We might hear of some travelers wanting to wait and see what happens in the U.S. election, but this hesitation is usually short-lived,” Bötschi shared.

Similarly, Anja Meier, Senior Product Manager for North America at Knecht Reisen, notes that USA travel interest in Switzerland stays consistently high regardless of election results. “When Trump first took office in 2017, we saw a slight dip in interest, but it quickly rebounded. Ultimately, factors like the dollar’s exchange rate and travel costs have a bigger impact on bookings than politics.”

Swiss Wanderlust for America Persists Through Political Shifts

Switzerland’s travel professionals believe that Swiss wanderlust for America is grounded in the country’s cultural, natural, and historical allure rather than the political landscape.

Bötschi recalls that under Trump’s first term, Swiss bookings to the U.S. saw robust growth, proving that the U.S.’s appeal remained strong even amid polarized politics.

While some travelers may express initial reservations, the numbers consistently show minimal political influence on travel bookings.

Looking at travel trends between Switzerland and the USA for 2025, experts predict steady demand, with Swiss travelers showing interest in diverse U.S. destinations from iconic cities to national parks.

Trump or Harris

“People dream of visiting America for its vast landscapes, cultural landmarks, and world-renowned attractions,” Meier said, adding that many Swiss travelers have bucket-list destinations in the U.S. that remain unaffected by election outcomes.

As the Trump Harris election impact unfolds, the Swiss travel industry will closely monitor trends. However, the overarching consensus is clear: Swiss travel to the USA will continue to thrive.  Swiss tourists’ enduring love for American experiences remains strong, driven by curiosity and admiration for the vastness and vibrancy of the country rather than its politics.
