American Airlines has announced the cancellation of multiple nonstop routes, marking the end of a pandemic-era expansion that once connected the Texas capital to over 45 cities.

The American Airlines flight reductions will start in October 2024, affecting routes to Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Orlando.

By November, flights to Boston, Nashville, and Raleigh-Durham will also be discontinued.

In January 2025, nonstop flights from Austin to Orange County, California, will be cut as well.

These American Airlines route changes in 2024 are part of the carrier’s “continuous evaluation” of its network, an airline spokesperson was quoted as saying in a Travel + Leisure report.

The slowdown in travel recovery and local labor concerns contributed to the American Airlines news about the cuts.

According to American Airlines travel updates, the airline will continue to offer one-stop connections to over 350 global destinations through its hubs.

However, passengers can still find nonstop options with Southwest, Delta, Spirit, and JetBlue to many cities impacted by the changes.

Despite the American Airlines route cuts, the airline will maintain service to eight key hubs — Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, and Phoenix —  and several seasonal routes from Austin.
