Find Major Airports in Taipei
There are two airports serving Taipei, Taiwan:
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
Situated in Taoyuan City, about 40 km (25 miles) west of Taipei’s capital in Dayuan District, Taoyuan, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Taiwan. It caters to the entire northern region of Taiwan, including Taipei. Known for its user-friendly layout, the airport comprises two terminals. Terminal 1, resembling Washington’s Dulles Airport, was established in 1979, while Terminal 2, a modern glass and steel structure, opened in 2000. An automated people mover links these two facilities.
Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)
Situated within Taipei’s Songshan District, Taipei Songshan Airport is a smaller airport primarily focused on domestic flights. However, it does provide limited international services to destinations including mainland China, Tokyo, and Seoul. Before 1979, Taipei Songshan Airport was the main international gateway for Taipei. Its primary functions include handling chartered flights, intra-island travel, and a select number of international flights.

The Best Time to Visit Taipei
The peak travel months typically fall between October and December, when the weather is most pleasant with mild temperatures and lower humidity. This autumn period attracts many visitors eager to explore the city’s attractions in comfort. Spring, from April to June, is another popular time, offering warm weather and the chance to see cherry blossoms. Despite being hot and humid, the summer months of July and August also see a surge in tourists, particularly families on school holidays.
In contrast, the off-peak season generally occurs from January to March, excluding the Chinese New Year period. These winter months are cooler and can be rainy, which tends to deter some travelers. However, visiting during this off-peak time can offer advantages such as fewer crowds at popular sites, more affordable accommodation rates, and a more relaxed atmosphere for exploring the city.
